The short version

Mat & Blade earns commission when you buy something through a link on this site. It costs you nothing extra, and it never changes what we recommend or the order we rank things in.

Mat & Blade is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Amazon is currently the only retailer we earn commission from. If that changes, this page changes with it.

What an affiliate link is

When you click a product link here, you go to the retailer with a tag attached that tells them the visit came from us. If you then buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage. The price you pay is identical to what you would pay arriving any other way — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.

Our product links route through an address on this site beginning /go/ before forwarding you to the retailer. That is so the tag is applied from one place and cannot be mistyped or forgotten on an individual link. Every earning link is marked #ad and carries the link attributes search engines expect on a paid link.

Why we do not show prices

You will not find a price anywhere on this site, and that is deliberate. Prices in this category move constantly, run frequent promotions and differ between retailers, so a number typed into a page is misleading within weeks and actively wrong within months.

Rather than publish figures we cannot keep accurate, every product links straight to its current listing so you see today's real price. It is slightly less convenient and considerably more honest.

What commission does not buy

• It does not affect our rankings. We rank on what suits a first-time buyer, and we frequently put a cheaper product first.
• It does not buy inclusion. No manufacturer or retailer has ever paid to appear on this site, and none has seen a page before publication.
• It does not stop us saying no. Plenty of pages here recommend not buying something, or recommend a brand we earn less from.
• It does not buy a good review. Every product on this site carries an explicit "not for you if".

• An inline notice above the first affiliate link on every page that carries one.
• An #ad label with a link back to this page under every buy button.
• A statement in the footer of every page on the site.
