What this site is for

Mat & Blade exists to help someone buying their first craft cutting machine work out what to get, what to skip, and what it will actually cost — without wading through guides that recommend machines the manufacturer stopped selling two generations ago.

We cover four things and nothing else: the machines themselves, the vinyl that goes with them, the heat sources that make designs stick, and sublimation for the people who eventually want it. Currently 66 guides, reviews and comparisons, with the product lineup last verified on 27 September 2026.

Who writes it

Ryder M. — Ryder M. is the hands-on owner behind Magoo Media Group and the person behind Mat & Blade. He builds the site's buying guides around what a first-time buyer actually needs to decide: what to buy, what to skip, and what it really costs.

That is the whole author bio, deliberately. We do not claim credentials nobody holds, we do not run a testing lab, and we do not pretend to have used every product on the site. What we do instead is described in full on our methodology page, and it is work you can check.

Who publishes it

Mat & Blade is published by Magoo Media Group.

How we work

• We verify what is currently sold. Product facts come from the manufacturer's own live catalog, and every product page shows the date we last checked. That date is the point — a guide that cannot tell you when it was checked is asking you to trust it blind.
• We publish no prices. Prices in this category move constantly, and a number typed into a page is misleading within weeks. Every product links to its live listing instead.
• We name the downside. Every product gets an explicit "not for you if". A recommendation with nothing against it is a sales pitch.
• We say when not to buy. A beginner usually does not need a sublimation printer, often does not need a heat press on day one, and rarely needs the top machine in a line.
• We recommend competing brands when they suit you better. If a Silhouette is the right machine for how you want to work, that is what the page says.

How this site is funded

Through affiliate commission. When you buy through a link here we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never determines what we recommend or how we rank it, and we have no sponsored content and sell no placements. Telling us we are wrong

Genuinely welcome, and corrections get priority over everything else in the inbox. If a product on this site has been discontinued, a specification has changed, or a recommendation no longer makes sense, email contact@matandblade.com and we will check it against the manufacturer and fix it.
